Project Description
The project goal was to improve the harmonization of development assistance to Ethiopia and to increase the effectiveness of poverty reduction programming in that country. This part of the project aimed to support the structures and activities of the Development Assistance Group (DAG) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) including relevant analytical inputs to inform the formulation and implementation of Ethiopia's next poverty reduction strategy. All CIDA disbursements for this project have been completed and the results of our investment are outlined below.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2013) include: continued coordination and facilitation of the activities of the Development Assistance Group of which Canada is a part including support to the harmonization processes formulation of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) - the Growth and Transformation Plan 2010-11 to 2014-15 operations of the Technical Working Groups and the DAG Secretariat and acting as Donor Focal Point for the 2011 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Survey on Aid Effectiveness; participation of Government of Ethiopia officials at the Fourth High Level Meeting on Aid Effectiveness in Busan Korea at which key policy discussions on Growth and Transformation Plan financing macroeconomic issues commune program and other issues of mutual concern were able to take place; printing of the English version of the Growth and Transformation Plan to enable non-Amharic language speakers access to this key national document; the development and implementation of the Aid Management Platform to improve the quality of data on aid in Ethiopia reported by donors and maintained by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development; commissioning the Aid Management and Utilization Study in 2010 and 2012 to examine the robustness of systems and safeguards in selected donor-supported national programs. These results contributed to improved harmonization of development assistance in Ethiopia by the Development Assistance Group.
