Project Description
This project deploys Canadian technical assistance volunteers to help strengthen Haitian institutions and organizations in the education governance and economic developmment sectors. The project implemented by the Centre for international studies and cooperation (CECI) the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Fundation (FPGL) and the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) supports mainly four Haitian Government ministries : Ministry of National Education and Professional Training Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of the Status of Women and Women’s Rights. It also supports coordination and dialogue between the Haitian Government and civil society in order to provide more accessible and quality services to the public.The project provides technical support to thirty Haitian organizations in four departments: Artibonite West North and Southeast.
Progress & Results Achieved
Among the results achieved as of March 2016: (1) 411 mandates completed within the framework of the project including 120 in governance 168 in education and 123 in economic development. 30 organizations were supported; (2) support provided to decentralized structures of the ministries of Planning and External Cooperation of Education and of Economy and Finance to define their procedures for working closely with citizens and improving the coordination of development projects funded by various donor organizations; (3) support provided to municipalities to assist them in using standard documentation in the processing of data on citizens; (4) The professional training and advice provided enabled the owners of small and medium-sized enterprises to improve their management and turnover; (5) Nearly 80% of the partners are fully applying the management planning and coordination concepts they have acquired and progress is apparent after six years of support; (6) A tourism package wasimproved through support to six agri-food and handicraft production organizations involved in the North Department’s first tourism package; (7) New vocational and technical training programs have been developed in hotel and restaurant management customer service air conditioning refrigeration hygiene and sanitation and are being applied nationwide; (8) The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) has adopted a system of school cooperatives; (9) New approaches have been developed for the teaching of experimental sciences and physical geography; (10) Management tables databases and annual planning techniques have been strengthened.
