Project Description
This project contributes to the improvement of labour rights in China. Its goal is to reduce trafficking in women and children migrant workers for labour exploitation. It aims to empower vulnerable groups particularly migrant workers to protect themselves and to improve systems and services relating to education migration and safe employment opportunities. The International Labour Organization (ILO) implements this project in partnership with the All-China Women's Federation and other organizations with a stake in labour trafficking prevention at the national provincial and municipal levels in eight provinces. The project supports activities such as training for students providing employment services for young women creating support networks for young women and children and developing codes of conduct for entrepreneurs. Furthermore the project strengthens provincial action plans against trafficking and develops and implement inter-provincial arrangements for safe migration. Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of December 2011 include: the project’s awareness raising campaigns have reached over 750 000 young migrant workers. In addition education departments in the 4 migrant-sending provinces of Anhui Hunan Guizhou and Yunnan are integrating information on the prevention of trafficking in middle and high school curricula; this information has already reached 1.5 million students and over 500 teachers have been trained through the project.
