Project Description
This project aims to support the Government of Mali in carrying out its fourth general population and housing census. This census exercise forms part of Mali’s statistical plan adopted by the Government in January 2006. The principal phases of the fourth census cover the following activities: mapping designing and drafting the questionnaire and collection manuals raising the awareness of the public and administrative and political authorities enumeration electronic data processing evaluation analysis publication and dissemination of results. The enumeration phase of the census was carried out in April 2009. Provisional results are available as of July 2009. Analysis and final publication of results come in 2010 and in 2011. This support project aims to help ensure the following: (1) the census honors Mali’s national and international commitments especially the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper and the Millennium Development Goals; (2) the census contributes to better control the land-use planning policy through intelligent allocation of resources; and (3) the census provides information that allows the development of survey plans and population samples which can then serve as a basis for developing further statistical surveys.
