Project Description
This multi-donor program aims to improve development policies and programs in Mali by building the capacities of civil society organizations (CSOs) of Mali to ensure that national policies reflect pro-poor interests and focus on poverty reduction. The program supports activities to build the capacities of CSOs at all levels from grass-roots to umbrella organizations in policy dialogue analysis research and citizen engagement. Support to strengthen the internal governance of CSOs is also part of all capacity building activities.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2016 include (1) 982 civil society organizations (CSOs) selected following calls for expressions of interest and calls for proposals have benefited from the project’s multi-year support to implement their development plan so that they can better carry out their role as agents of development and social change (in the Malian context) and promotion of good governance and decentralization up to 9.8 million. These CSOs are supported in political dialogue analysis of development policies studies advocacy and citizen control in their areas; (2) 4 100 development actors (59.9% women) from 550 CSOs benefited from strengthening their skills in various areas (development of procedures manuals accounting and financial management material and human resources management negotiation and searching for funding); (3) a briefing note prepared by the civil society organizations in collaboration with the project on the "vision of national and international civil society for the recovery and sustainable development of Mali" was presented at the high-level conference “Together for a New Mali ” held in Brussels in May 2013; (4) 84 civil society organizations have improved their public governance efficiency through accountability and project management training; (5) the Forum of Civil Society Organizations and its regional branches partners and project beneficiaries have increased their methodological capabilities in institutional governance consensus consolidation of its social base coordination and monitoring and evaluation as well as their conflict management skills. These results contribute to improving the capacity of civil society organizations to influence development programs and policies in Mali.
