Project Description

This project aims at implementing the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) model and mechanism that effectively responds to the needs of the Andean country Peru. The organization works closely with national and regional governments employers unions and other agencies and associations related to employment and with colleges and other pertinent educational institutions to: (1) reform and modernize the approach and delivery of TVET in Peru by introducing a more decentralized and entrepreneurial approach to college management; (2) drive a dynamic and relevant change process in TVET management curricula design and teaching practices; and (3) establish a collaborative regional network of institutional partners which would extend to other Latin American countries for further replicability and sustainability.

Expected Results

The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: Improved quality and delivery of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs of Ministry of Education and selected Centros Educativo Technico Productivo (CETPROs) and Instituto Superior Tecnologico (ISTs) to vulnerable female and male youth; Increased gainful employment including self-employment of graduates and particularly young women in jobs related to TVET training received

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2016 include: (1) 15 national (Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour) and 19 regional managers and administrators trained in design and implementation of management models and curricular programming relevant to market demands; (2) 74 (22 females and 52 males) teachers and education specialists trained in the design of programs using a competencies approach; (3) 45 (12 females and 33 males) teachers and principals of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) centers trained in vocational training with the Employment Centers/Ministry Labour; (4) 22 occupational profiles for eight prioritized sectors created with the participation of the private sector; (5) 35 managers of TVET Institutes trained in sustainable environmental management and 1 109 (469 female and 640 men) young workers certified in their field; (6) 183 (83 females and 100 males) students received job seeking services. These achievements have contributed to improving the quality and delivery of technical education and enhanced the opportunities of youth to integrate into the labour market in Peru. They have also contributed to the sustainability of the Education for Employment program in Peru through involvement of local governments cooperatives and employers from the private sector.
