Project Description

This project aims at implementing the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) model and mechanism that effectively responds to the needs of the Andean country Bolivia. The organization works closely with national and regional governments employers unions and other agencies and associations related to employment and with colleges and other pertinent educational institutions to: (1) reform and modernize the approach and delivery of TVET in Bolivia by introducing a more decentralized and entrepreneurial approach to college management; (2) drive a dynamic and relevant change process in TVET management curricula design and teaching practices; and (3) establish a collaborative regional network of institutional partners which would extend to other Latin American countries for further replicability and sustainability.

Expected Results

The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: Improved quality and delivery of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs of the Ministry of Education and TVET pilot institutions to vulnerable female and male youth; Increased gainful employment including self-employment of graduates and particularly young women in jobs related to TVET training received.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2016 include: (1) seven agreements with Canadian Colleges have been signed and partnerships between these colleges and their corresponding Bolivian Technical-Technological Institutes (TTI) have been established; (2) 110 companies helped define professional profiles based on the application of labour market and workplace situational analyses with 12 new technical specializations designed; (3) a total of 145 teachers from seven TTIs (14 women and 131 men) were trained in competency-based curriculum design (including female teachers trained in non-traditional areas/subjects); and (4) a communications campaign was developed which included a Facebook page life history videos tutorial videos and WhatsApp audio. These achievements have contributed to improving the quality and delivery of technical education in Bolivia and to enhancing opportunities for youth integration in the labour market. They also contribute to the sustainability of the project’s results in Bolivia because they involve local governments cooperatives and employers from the private sector and help ensure that technical education programs are responding to the needs of Bolivia’s productive sector.
