Contribution to Food Security - Adaptation to Climate Change

Results achieved as the end of the project (March 2012) include: awareness meetings and training sessions on watershed development soil conservation erosion prevention and increasing the yield of food crops were held for local officials and residents. At least 120 individuals (including 39 women) benefited from 120 sub-project activities including the planting of 493 500 trees (including 265 051 fruit trees) the protection of 92 km of ravines (78 km more than expected) the rehabilitation of the Cabeye River banks and the protection of 340 hectares of land on hillsides against erosion (320 hectares more than expected). These results have contributed to increasing people’s awareness of agricultural practices minimizing environmental impacts and reducing the risk of natural disasters such as flooding and landslides in the area.
