Project Description
The objective of Corporación Latinobarómetro's 'Latin American Public Opinion Barometer Program' is to promote the use of rigorous evidence-based impact evaluations to assess the results of innovative public policies. This program is a component of the 'Democracies that Deliver Initiative' together with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) 'Facilitating Systematic Learning Program' and FOCAL's 'Knowledge for Development Program 3'. These programs share best practices in public policy in the areas of: health education and employment/labour mobility between Canada the Caribbean and the Latin American Region.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project include: conducting 60 612 personal interviews with citizens in 18 countries in Latin America as part of the Latinobarometro opinion survey on health education and employment/labour mobility; and creating a 3 annual databases with information on the 18 countries surveyed. The survey results were disseminated in various media publications and presentations including 3 yearly-dedicated articles featured in The Economist. Over the course of the project there were on average 800 press articles per year covering the Latinobarometro survey. In addition Latinobarometro published eight reports covering a wide range of issues in the region. These articles have contributed to increasing awareness and understanding of best practices in public policy in health education and employment mobility in Canada Latin America and the Caribbean.
