Project Description
This project aims to define and build consensus on democratic election standards that apply to elections run in both a traditional (paper) and an electronic manner. It promotes the development and professionalization of the field of election observation and assists democratic development through the articulation of clear standards and criteria for democratic elections. This is done by organizing meetings workshops and consultations with various international experts and organizations and with civil society. The project brings together all the key international actors in the area of democratic development. It also enhances Canadian visibility and influence in this field. The project is part of the Multilateral Election Observation Program. This Program uses a whole-of-government approach for Canadian support to multilateral election observation in developing countries. Its main objective is to assist developing countries in their objective to hold democratic elections in line with national and international election standards. Support for election observation contributes to strengthening the electoral process in developing countries.
