Project Description
The project has the primary objective of contributing to analytical work on the key development challenges facing Zimbabwe. Through a multi-donor program of support led by the World Bank the Fund supports sectoral analyses to enhance country knowledge while improving harmonization amongst donors to make aid programs more effective.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2011) include: increased knowledge of the Zimbabwean context and policy options in agriculture (through support to the consultation for the development of the Zimbabwe agriculture sector Strategic Framework and Investment Plan under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme and through studies related to small farm holders and to the irrigation sector); better understanding of the constraints to infrastructure development (through studies and technical assistance in the water and energy sectors); and increased knowledge of issues pertaining to social protection and basic services (through training of the Department of Social Services staff on social protection instruments and technical assistance to develop via a consultative process a framework for social transfers). These have contributed to enhanced collaboration with government in policy formulation and improved coordination among donors for existing programming and future re-engagement.
