Project Description
This project represents funds set aside for monitoring and evaluation of the Sudan Democratic Governance Program as well as for technical assistance related to Sudan’s electoral and referendum processes. For administrative reasons sometimes the funds identified for this purpose are included in the main project budget and sometimes as in this case they are assigned a separate project number.
Progress & Results Achieved
As of the end of March 2011 funds have been used to support CIDA in its leadership role as Co-Chair of the Donor Working Group on the Referendum (Khartoum) through the hiring of a full-time Canadian Coordinator of donor support for the referendum. Funds have also been used to conduct a week-long referendum study tour to Quebec City Montreal and Ottawa in August 2010. Organized by the Institute for Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) this study tour enabled 11 representatives from both the Northern and Southern Sudanese political parties - the National Congress Party (NCP) and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) - to meet with Canadian academics and experts to learn lessons from Canada’s referendum experience.
