Project Description
The One UN Program promotes improved coordination efficiency and effectiveness of UN agencies at the country level by establishing one leader one program one budgetary framework and one office. The program aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of key partners to develop policies and deliver programs in high priority areas (employment maternal and reproductive health HIV/AIDS and disaster preparedness) in order to increase poor and vulnerable Tanzanians' access to sustainable income opportunities and basic social services.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (October 2011) include: CIDA’s support to the Delivering as One Pilot program in Tanzania was aligned to the three pillars of Tanzania’s 2005-2010 National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (MKUKUTA) and reflected the country’s needs in terms of meeting internationally agreed development goals. The pilot resulted in an increased use of country systems for both financing and implementing programmes. Notable progress was made by the 11 Joint Programs including: strengthening the policy and institutional framework for pro-poor wealth creation and economic well being; development of National Poverty Reduction Strategies for Tanzania (MKUKUTA II and MKUZA II for Mainland and Zanzibar respectively); strengthening government capacity for participatory planning processes for health care improvement across all districts; development of the multi-sectoral HIV Prevention Strategy 2010-2012; implementation of a sector-wide monitoring tool for educational sector analysis; reintegration of over 60 000 refugees in communities and districts in northwest Tanzania; strengthening of government capacity for climate change management including adaptation and mitigation strategies as well as protection of key biosphere reserves of global environmental value.
