Project Description

This project is designed to alleviate poverty in select communities of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) through improved livelihoods basic development services income-generating opportunities and improved local governance. The project works to strengthen up to 100 traditional indigenous community organizations (representing up to 30 000 individuals) and gradually make them more broad-based and inclusive. The project also provides strategic support designed to improve livelihoods within the context of the local economy with a focus on infrastructure and activities that improve crop and livestock productivity as well as community schools adult literacy centres and health services in accordance with community needs. Finally the project supports a strengthened interface between community organizations and relevant local government bodies.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2014) include: (1) created 257 community organizations in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas engaging a total membership of over 2 000 households including the establishment of the first-ever women’s community organizations; (2) created 111 women's common interest groups; (3) provided basic health services to over 8 400 people; and (4) implemented over 75 community infrastructure schemes benefitting close to 20 000 individuals in a remote region of the country. These results contributed to poverty alleviation in in select communities of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
