Project Description
The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa (ICA) was created in 2005 to accelerate progress towards meeting the urgent infrastructure needs of Africa in support of economic growth and development. The Consortium brings together G8 donors Regional Economic Communities (RECs) the African Union and multilateral organizations to coordinate initiatives to increase public and private investment in regional infrastructure across the continent. It aims to make its members more effective at supporting infrastructure in Africa by pooling efforts in selected areas (such as information sharing project development and the exchange of best practices). Although not a financing agency the Consortium acts as a platform to broker increased financing of infrastructure projects and programs in Africa.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project include: four workshops on financing for energy transportation water and regional infrastructure projects plus the preparation of various publications such as User Guides to Infrastructure Project Preparation and How to Attract Investors to African Public-Private Partnerships. The Infrastructure Consortium for Africa has successfully engaged with African organizations such as the African Union (AU) and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) in developing consensus on the best strategies for promoting investment in Africa’s infrastructure. Overall support to infrastructure in Africa has witnessed significant increases in recent years.
