Project Description
UNICEF and UNFPA support selected municipalities in the delivery of services in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and in particular in the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV/AIDS. The goal of the project is to contribute directly to the delivery of appropriate primary sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care to adolescent and youth populations in selected municipalities by mobilizing and coordinating local resources including municipal health structures and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2018): (1) 272 children and youth organizations and 64 municipal youth programs were strengthened which over the span of the project reached 475 000 adolescents on topics such as education on sexual and reproductive rights gender equality and the identification of strategies for preventing peer and community-based violence ; (2) with the support of Brazilian partner Reprolatina the project provided ongoing technical support and specialized training on youth sexual and reproductive rights to the projects 41 adolescent friendly health centers ; (3) cybercentres were installed in 25 municipalities with an average annual attendance of 30 000 girls boys adolescents and young adults where participants developed skills for the safe management of social networks acquired competencies for the prevention of early pregnancy STIs HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence ; (4) 3 000 community volunteers received training to disseminate information on the prevention of violence adolescent pregnancies STIs and HIV/AIDS to the 45 000 children and youth whom participated in the project’s “Soccer for Life” programme.
