Project Description
This project aims to improve child survival and maternal health in Ethiopia by ensuring that quality basic health services reach more mothers and children under age five. The activities funded by CIDA consist of procuring and distributing essential drugs supplies and medical equipment. This is one component of a larger multi-donor program. Contributions from other donors and from the Government of Ethiopia help ensure that health facilities are properly staffed and maintained. Specifically CIDA's contribution is designed to result in a more timely and complete supply of medical commodities (e.g. vaccines anti-malarial bed-nets clean childbirth kits) and equipment (e.g. microscopes instrument sterilizers obstetric equipment) at frontline health facilities throughout Ethiopia. All CIDA disbursements for this project have been completed.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of CIDA's contribution (July 2012) include: During 2010/2011 CIDA contributed to the procurement and delivery of an estimated $19 million worth of anti-malarial bed nets vaccines and basic health post equipment for distribution to front-line health facilities in Ethiopia. Project activities contributed to improved child survival and maternal health in Ethiopia through enhanced access to improved basic health services.
