Project Description
This project aims to assist support and enable poor rural communities and households in four Union Councils in Mansehra District North West Frontier Province (approximately 6 000 households) in undertaking community-led reconstruction activities leading to sustainable and equitable economic and social development. The project is designed to establish and engender sustainable livelihoods improve food security and well-being and prepare communities and households for future natural disasters with a focus on vulnerable groups such as women and single parent households.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2012): The project continues to work through 160 Village Coordination Committes (VCCs) to improve socio-economic conditions of its primary target group of 6 000 Ultra poor households in four Union Councils of the Mansherra District. VCC membership included 5 731 men and 5 731 women. 131 gender session were delivered to 770 men and 1 484 women helping to improve women's access to Livestock extension work training first aid and water. 3000 households (718 male headed households & 2 218 female headed households) participated in a kitchen garden project resulting in improved incomes and savings. A total of 158 Project Implementation Committees (PIC) have been formed comprising 948 men and 316 women and are overseeing the completion of 14 drinking water systems 7 water ponds 9 wells and 26 access paths. PIC's are establishing their own funds to maintain these schemes.
