Project Description
The project provides a direct financial support to the Secretariat of the Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC) to carry out its mandate effectively which aims to help identify and address strategic questions related to medium- and long-term development in West Africa. The project goal is to support SWAC in developing and implementing action-oriented policies and investments that take into account the complementarities between local national and regional levels. The project also helps to identify strategic questions on the region’s future and facilitates dialogue between regional actors and OECD member countries.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of end of project report (March 2011) include : (i) West African countries adopted a food security intervention framework; (ii) working sessions contributed to updated guiding principles for multinational corporations and an awareness tool for these companies about commercial pressures on land; (iii) a cross-border cooperation guide was completed; (iv) a program with the Interparliamentary Union was initiated to combat the child labour trade especially its worst forms; and (v) several analyses on links between climatic variables and security issues were conducted.
