Project Description
The Poverty Reduction Local Fund - Phase II (FALP II) responds to proposals from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and development associations active in Niger. The funded initiatives helped to build the institutional capacities of partner organizations and to give the poorest mainly women and children better access to social services and basic nutrition. FALP II focuses its support on the Maradi Tillaberi and Tahoua regions.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved by this project as of March 2011 include: 1 041 women in four communes of the Tahoua region have access to self-managed microcredit to carry out revenue-generating activities. 540 producers in the Maradi region including 150 women were trained at 27 field schools and have built their capacities in agricultural techniques. The members of 52 farmers’ organizations better understand their role and are actively involved in associations in their region. An integrated health centre has been established in Maradi and it provides quality health care to an estimated population of 10 811. In the Tahoua region 7 589 people have greater access to safe drinking water thanks to the building of three modern wells in Cheghamane Intoussa and Goumbi Danyayé as well as the rehabilitation of two wells in Fallali and Maraba Kao.
