Project Description
The goal of this project is to improve the equity quality and relevance of education in sub-Saharan Africa. The purpose of the project is to support the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) a unique association that brings together African Ministers of Education donor agencies and other important stakeholders in African education. ADEA contributes to educational policy-making and reform in sub-Saharan Africa through serving as a forum for policy dialogue and joint planning among its members; organizing meetings and conferences; supporting research on important issues in African education; building the capacity of African Ministries of Education and Training; and producing and disseminating information related to education in Africa.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project include: 1) The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) contributed to achieving the key objectives of the Education plan for the Second Decade of Education for Africa . These objectives focus mainly on the regional and continental integration of Education Management Information Systems to improve planning organizational efficiencies data collection and analysis information sharing and transparency in the education sector. For example the Southern African Development Community has completed phase 2 of the Plan and the Economic Community of Central African States and the Economic Community of West African States have completed phase 1. In addition all of the Member States strengthened their competencies to pilot and evaluate their progress in the seven priority areas for the Plan. 2) The ADEA Secretariat and nine national working groups have produced a wide range of policy documents and tools in response to policy dialogue and capacity building needs of African countries. The ADEA has also established a learning framework for the identification documentation analysis dissemination and systematic sharing of lessons about the process to improve the quality of education systems. 3) The ADEA used the communication materials produced in 2010 (publications web site and databases) to build media relations and awareness in order to attract new members and potential partners. 4) In order to help build the capacities of the ADEA the findings of an independent evaluation conducted in 2010 was used in 2011 to incite an analysis on how to restructure the Association in the coming years.
