Project Description
The project aims to prevent the recruitment of children and adolescents into the worst forms of child labour as defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and to withdraw children who have already been recruited. The worst forms of child labour include using children in armed conflict in mining work and in illicit activities such as drug production. The project strengthens the capacities of teachers communities and families (parents and tutors) to protect the rights of children and adolescents. It also provides protection and psychosocial care for children and adolescents. The goal of the project is to restore to children and adolescents their right to education and the creative use of their free time. This project is funded through the Local Fund for Governance and Children's Rights and Protection.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (November 2011) include: The parents or guardians of 200 children and youth at risk of becoming involved in the worst forms of child labour participated in workshops to help strengthen their parenting skills and improve their commitment to dissociating their children from the worst forms of child labour. The project contributed to removing 803 children and youth (343 girls and 460 boys) from the worst forms of child labour and successfully preventing 129 more from becoming child labourers.
