Project Description
This project aims to improve the quality of life and the functional capacity of surviving landmine victims in the Middle East. In collaboration with partners in Jordan Lebanon and the West Bank and Gaza College Montmorency is helping transfer knowledge of orthopaedic and prosthesis care to local technicians and clinicians. The project’s ultimate goal is to improve amputees’ rehabilitation process and support them in their eventual efforts to secure their basic human needs. Assistance to the victims includes emergency medical attention occupational therapy physiotherapy the provision of prostheses and psychological support as well as support for their reintegration into society.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of the end of the project include: More than 1 200 participants including 473 women attended 40 trainings in fields related to physical rehabilitation such as orthotics and prosthetics patient treatment approaches and records management. Workshops on gender mainstreaming were delivered to 64 individuals from 20 stakeholders organizations working with mine victims and persons with disabilities. The project contributed to improving the competency of local technicians specialists and family caretakers to provide appropriate physical rehabilitation treatments and services. In all training and follow-up coaching with project stakeholders reached an estimated 3 000 individuals thereby improving the quality of rehabilitation services and possibilities of social reintegration offered to persons with amputations/disabilities in Lebanon Jordan and the West Bank.
