Project Description
The objective of this project is to promote equality between men and women and social peace in Haiti. Major short-term (12-18 months) investments are made in order to obtain significant results and quickly improve the well-being of beneficiaries. The project supports six initiatives: (1) $5 million to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for free obstetrical care for poor pregnant women; (2) $520 000 to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for human rights protection for people living in vulnerable situations; (3) $1.2 million to the UNFPA to support and protect women and girls who are victims of sexual violence; (4) $920 000 to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization for horticulture projects in the urban areas of Port-au-Prince and Jérémie; (5) $1.4 million to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support human development in the Haiti-Dominican Republic frontier zone; (6) $125 000 to the UNDP to support the coordination of humanitarian and relief efforts. Part of the project budget has also been allocated for monitoring results.
