Project Description
The Cuba Community Development Fund (CCDF) aims to empower local entities and actors involved in community development through partnerships with Canadian Executing Agencies for community-led initiatives. The project strengthens community planning and networking encouraging the participation of both sexes. It also helps to increase technological capacity and to improve local infrastructures. The CCDF improves local economic development and enhances community services. It also promotes environmental sustainability in the targeted communities. The end result is an effective Canada/Cuba partnership that contributes to improved living conditions for local populations.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of September 2013 include: agricultural productivity has improved in 60 municipalities creating more than 300 jobs (40% for women) and increasing the quality and quantity of products for self-consumption or sale at the local level. Some key results include: an increase in the number of women employed in agricultural production systems a 40% increase in the hiring of women as production leads ; an increase in the number of female agricultural workers in Cuba’s National Association for Small Farmers and in their engagement in the agriculture industry in targeted zones.
