Project Description
This project ended ahead of schedule for administrative reasons. The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the national NGO Coordination Unit which operates within the HIV/AIDS and TB Directorate of the Ministry of Health. The Unit provides grants to HIV and AIDS non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who deliver services in the areas of HIV and AIDS prevention and care treatment and support. The CIDA contribution funds only the capacity building of this Unit. The Government of South Africa provides the grants to the NGOs. CIDA's support in enhancing the capacity of the NGO Coordination Unit to develop and implement operational and management frameworks results in: i) improved intra-departmental coordination and capacity of national and provincial NGO Coordination Unit's which facilitates increased accessibility to Government's grantmaking process; and ii) improved capacity and skills development of non-governmental and community-based organizations to provide HIV/AIDS quality care provision in the key areas of prevention and treatment care and support.
