Project Description
This project aims to help China to meet its international labour-rights commitments related to rural migrant workers. The objective is to provide expertise to strengthen the capacity of municipal governments in China to improve employment practices and provide more equitable access to formal labour markets with particular attention paid to women and ethnic minorities. The project also aims to help central-level agencies to coordinate the implementation of China's international commitments including measures in support of recommendations of the International Labour Organization.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results at the end of the project (March 2011) include: in 2010 over 3500 migrants accessed employment services provided by the Shehong County Government in 2010 up from 1500 in 2007. In addition 210 community legal aid stations were operational in Shehong County in 2010-2011 compared to 105 in 2005. The project’s Migrant Advisory Group facilitated intergovernmental dialogue and policy research allowing lessons learned in the pilot counties to inform national policy development and replication in other regions on a timely basis.
