Project Description
The goal of this initiative is to improve access to quality basic education especially for the rural poor and disadvantaged girls and boys. Targeted Budget Support for Education for All (EFA) consists of two components: (1) a budget support operation through the Education National Targeted Program in support of national EFA goals in basic education and the promotion of minimum service delivery standards; and (2) a capacity development facility designed to strengthen the administration of the education system and the National Targeted Program. The project focuses on improved access enhanced quality gender equality and an improved education-enabling environment through comprehensive capacity development. Project activities help to advance the implementation of the National EFA Action Plan; improve access to educational opportunities for students in the most disadvantaged schools through a package of investments designed to enhance the quality of the country's primary education sector. CIDA Belgium the World Bank the European Commission the United Kingdom and New Zealand fund this project jointly.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of the end of the project (December 2011) include: improved access to quality basic education through support to priorities identified by the Government of Vietnam to enhance the quality of education and strengthen the administration of the education system. Those results enhanced the development and approval of a five-year action program (2011-2016) on education reform. The project has contributed to improving children’s access to quality basic education particularly in rural areas of Vietnam.
