Project Description
This project represents CIDA's contribution to a multi-donor initiative seeking to improve basic childhood education at the kindergarten level and make it more accessible to children who are disadvantaged due to gender poverty disability ethnicity status or location. The project includes a feeding program and teacher training.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2013r) include: (1) nine non-governmental organizations working in 304 communities opened 873 kindergarten classrooms which 8 761 girls and 10 001 boys are attending; (2) the framework for a kindergarten curriculum and accompanying supports was completed and approved; (3) a path to ensure promotions for kindergarten teachers was developed; (4) a teacher training program was set up; (5) eleven training packages were developed and delivered to 32 485 teachers supervisors facilitators and principals; (6) guides on the environment community participation and family participation as well as a Teachers’ Guide a Supervisors’ Guide and a Professional Guide for Early Childhood Education Leaders were developed and distributed. These contributed to improving basic childhood education at the kindergarten level.
