To that end three decentralized funds were established: Women and Democracy; Civil Society and Democratic Development; and Public Participation and Governance. Through these funds CIDA supports civic education the freedom of the press the defence of human rights and inter-institutional dialogue between civil society organizations and government institutions. Through the post-electoral period the project helps to foster a Congolese society that is better informed concerning its individual rights and responsibilities that actively participates in the establishment of democratic institutions and that understands the value of a peaceful society that respects human rights.
