Project Description

This project enables two-way learning between Canadian Indigenous peoples and Indigenous partners in Latin American and the Caribbean regarding interactions with mining companies and governments. The goal is to develop and implement appropriate strategies and mechanisms that support and further Indigenous rights processes and aspirations. The project aims to influence national policies and corporate practices in order to achieve more equitable decision-making and development processes on or near ancestral lands. This project is funded through the Indigenous Peoples Partnership Program (IPPP) a pilot program that supports the development priorities of Indigenous peoples in the Latin America and Caribbean region. The IPPP supports initiatives conceived both by Indigenous organizations in that region and by their Canadian Aboriginal partners. The partnerships created through the IPPP contribute to the sustainable development of Indigenous peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean through an exchange of knowledge experience expertise and existing models.
