Project Description
The project aims to set up a flexible funding mechanism to allow the provision of support for activities benefiting West and Central African Civil Society (groups professional associations institutions non-governmental organizations etc.). Such support is intended among other things to enable Civil Society to initiate and/or participate in activities related to capacity building knowledge-sharing policy dialogue representation and reflection on current key issues relating to the development of the region and Africa as a whole. This project is in line with the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) which advocates greater African ownership of African development issues.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project include: contributing to establishing a more formal mechanism for dialogue between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and West African Civil Society through support to the organisation of the West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) and deepening the understanding of the role of Civil Society in achieving development objectives at the country and sector levels (health governance) and enabling conditions for Civil Society to fully play this role through the realisation of three case studies (Cameroon Nigeria Mali) and the organisation of a multi-partners' workshop.
