Project Description
This project supports public sector transformation and good governance in South Africa. It facilitates the process of public-sector transformation through the provision of expert short-term technical assistance and other inputs to government departments and public sector institutions. The project activities are focussed on the ongoing transformation of the South African government. More specifically it supports training capacity building and other inputs that strengthen the ability of the government to develop and deliver programs and services.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2009) include: A sub-project with South Africa's Agricultural Research Council increased the reliability of rabies test results and decreased the turnaround time for diagnosis from 28 to 5 days thereby improving service delivery and improving public confidence. Another sub-project with the South African Reserve Bank led to the development of a new model that enabled the Reserve Bank to produce better economic growth forecasts. Through the project the Bank saved two to three years of development time improved its credibility with its peers and is now seen as a pioneer in producing economic growth forecasts in Africa.
