Project Description
The goal of this project is to improve the quality of primary school education throughout Egypt by helping the Ministry of Education develop the training management ability and teaching skills needed to apply and sustain the country's national standards of education. Initially the project involves 180 schools in Upper Egypt. As the capacity of the Ministry increases the benefits extend throughout the country.
Progress & Results Achieved
As of the project’s conclusion on May 31 2011: A school-based reform program was completed and training packages developed and training of trainers provided to 250 professional development cadres. 90 schools were directly targeted for Canadian expert assistance with a further 90 targeted to receive expert assistance from Ministry of Education professional cadres. All 180 schools achieved accreditation under the Ministry’s newly implemented school certification program. In addition the project provided training and technical advice to three pilot Equal Opportunities Units with the Ministry of Education and also assisted with the development of an Equal Opportunity policy and implementation guides. As a result the Ministry of Education established Equal Opportunity Units in all school districts. Key products of the project are; 25 policies and implementation guides delivered to the Ministry of Education; 53 261 students exposed to updated curricula and teacher skills in active learning; 17 professional development courses developed and adopted for national implementation by the Ministry of Education; 22 804 teachers provided with 3 904 hours of training on school-based reform subjects; and 100% uptake by the Ministry of Education in implementing school-based reform programs in all regions of Egypt.
