Project Description

This project aims to address the disproportionate effects of gender inequality climate change and conflict on women and girls in Colombia the Democratic Republic of Congo South Sudan and the West Bank. Led by KAIROS a Canadian civil society development partner and in collaboration with local human rights organizations the project focuses on empowering women peacebuilders and local networks to lead interventions at the intersection of the triple nexus of climate change conflict and gender inequality. The initiative seeks to foster more sustainable equitable resilient and peaceful societies in these regions by enhancing local capacity and strengthening the impact of gender-transformative approaches to these interconnected challenges. The project focuses on capacity-building for partner staff and local groups in areas like fundraising accounting and digital communication. It offers training on financial literacy community savings and socio-environmental issues for economic empowerment. The project also addresses traditional environmental management gender equality and climate impacts supporting local groups in responding to the triple nexus. It includes training for government civil society and community leaders. Additionally the project promotes sustainability through knowledge exchange joint campaigns and partner network support.

Expected Results

The expected intermediate level outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced sustainable engagement of implementing partners local groups and networks of women peacebuilders and allies to address climate change conflict and gender inequality; (2) improved effectiveness of advocacy campaigns led by implementing partners local governance structures and local leaders to address the negative impacts of climate change conflict and gender inequality including all forms of gender-based violence; and (3) broadened reach and impact of project outcomes on gender-transformative approaches to the nexus of climate conflict and gender inequalities.
