Project Description
This project aims to increase the economic participation and resilience of 18 400 disadvantaged youth (10 915 young women and 1 050 youth living with disabilities) in Ethiopia Rwanda and Somalia. It does so by providing them with the skills and support needed to succeed in the growing green economy. The project aims to improve the teaching capacity of Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions by revising curricula and providing technical and material support particularly in emerging and green skills. It also supports disadvantaged youth gain marketable skills needed to successfully find and sustain employment. The project also seeks to increase formal employment and entrepreneurship opportunities by providing business development services internship placements or access to waged jobs. It also aims to enhance the capacity of labour market actors and financial institutions or associations to support their economic participation. Project activities include: (1) developing revised TVET curricula to include green skills teaching; (2) training TVET instructors on green skills TVET curricula inclusive teaching strategies and work-readiness skills; (3) creating partnerships with the private sector to provide practical internships to TVET students; (4) providing financial support to enrol disadvantaged youth in technical and vocational education especially in green fields; and (5) training disadvantaged youth on entrepreneurship and employability skills including digital literacy skills soft and life skills and financial literacy.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved provision of quality gender-sensitive technical and vocational education including trainings in green skills for disadvantaged youth; (2) enhanced marketable skills among disadvantaged youth especially green skills among young women; and (3) increased formal employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for disadvantaged youth especially for young women in the green economy.
