Project Description
This project aims to address gender-based and intersectional discrimination in the administration of justice in death penalty cases around the world advocating for the full abolition of capital punishment. The project aims to build capacity in collaboration with States and civil society organizations research training technical assistance and developing tools including communication strategies.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased engagement on gender-based and intersectional discrimination by civil society organizations worldwide; and (2) enhanced protection of the rights of women facing the death penalty by national criminal justice systems and the United Nations system.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of September 2024 include: (1) the Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide (CCDPW) with Cardozo Law review published a new article titled “Gender Matters: Women on Death Row in the United States”; (2) 36 people (27 women and 9 men) participated in at least 1 day of an in-person 3-day training on Gender and the Death Penalty in Philadelphia USA from September 27 to 29; and (3) the Advocates for Human Rights the World Coalition and World Coalition members submitted 78 reports completed 46 oral declarations and organized 6 side events.
