Project Description

This project aims to advance peacebuilding efforts in Sri Lanka. It contributes to the Peacebuilding Window of the United Nations Sri Lanka Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Fund. This is a multi-partner pooled fund that aims to unlock progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka. The Peacebuilding Window focuses on strengthening national capacities at all levels for conflict management and laying the foundation for sustainable peace and development. Project activities include: (1) supporting women’s rights groups to preserve and expand civic space; (2) equipping media and communication professionals with tools to effectively monitor and prevent hate speech and misinformation; and (3) building capacity for existing community networks to contribute to and participate in decision-making and dialogue mechanisms at local and national levels.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced service delivery of the state and other relevant stakeholders to address land-related conflicts; (2) strengthened capacities of civil society independent institutions transitional justice mechanisms and the public and private sectors to protect space for civic engagement ensuring gender equality in participation. Also this initiative will help to enhance victim-centric and gender-responsive service delivery and institutionalize gender-sensitive dispute resolution systems to safeguard social cohesion and reconciliation; and (3) improved capacities of relevant state and non-state entities to address and effectively respond to harmful speech misinformation and disinformation. This includes gendered harmful speech by leveraging digital and other relevant tools.
