Project Description

With the support of Global Affairs Canada Interpeace is working to strengthen the collaboration between Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the United Nations (UN) to ensure that the 2025 United Nations Peacebuilding Architecture Review (PBAR) reflects the experiences and challenges faced by local peacebuilders. By highlighting the insights of these local peacebuilders the project aims to influence UN policies and practices promoting a stronger partnership between the UN and CSOs on peacebuilding. Interpeace does this by organizing regional and thematic consultations conducting interviews with leaders from national and international peacebuilding organizations and producing documents with key recommendations. These efforts help identify important themes and issues for the PBAR and contribute to the annual CSO-UN dialogue.

Expected Results

The expected ultimate outcome of this project is the UN's approach to peacebuilding becomes more effective inclusive and representative of diverse perspectives. The intermediate outcome is increased participation and influence of local CSOs and peacebuilders particularly women in the Peacebuilding Architecture Review and processes emerging from it. This intermediate outcome is achieved through: (1) enhanced leadership of women CSO participants in influencing the Peacebuilding Architecture Review to consider the intersectional needs of women; (2) increased networking and collaboration between peacebuilding CSOs both local and international and peacebuilders within their respective regions to influence the Peacebuilding Architecture Review and follow-on processes; and (3) increased consensus among consultation participants on intersectional priorities for improving the 2025 Peacebuilding Architecture Review.
