Project Description
The project aims to enhance the role of national media in raising public awareness and shaping the national agenda on sexual and reproductive rights and in ending gender-based violence against women in remote rural areas. It aims to facilitate collaboration among social and health workers community radio community leaders and youth to combat social stigmas related to sexual and reproductive rights and gender-based violence. The project aims also increase the participation of women’s rights organisations and women leaders in the development of public policies on sexual and reproductive rights influencing policy makers to implement gender-responsive actions. It aims to directly support 140 journalists 30 media organizations and outlets and 30 civil society and women’s organizations reaching an estimated 400 000-600 000 women adolescents and gender-diverse people as well as 9 000 000 Tunisians through media coverage.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced efficiency of the media role in promoting equal enjoyment of sexual and reproductive rights ending gender-based violence and its gendered drivers; 2) improved local media broadcasting community health behaviors and practices that support women’s autonomy decision making and safety from violence in remote and rural areas; and (3) increased equitable participation by media and civil society organizations in particular women’s rights organizations in the design and implementation of public policy for the promotion and protection of sexual and reproductive rights of adolescents women and gender-diverse people at different levels of government.
