Project Description

This project focuses on strengthening the capacity of national and regional governments and community-level service providers to deliver better care for vulnerable children and support the reintegration of displaced children. Project activities include: (1) conducting individual assessments and reintegrating internally displaced children or children relocated to neighboring countries including Russia; (2) connecting children and their families to relevant social services benefits and support structures to support the provision of safe and nurturing environments; (3) developing the family-based care and protection system for children without parental care including children with disabilities; and (4) establishing a Child rights protection centre managed by the Ombudsman’s office dedicated to dealing with cases of war crimes against children.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased utilization of individual needs assessments social services benefits and support including family-based care to facilitate reintegration by girls and boys who have returned to Ukraine including those without parental care; (2) increased use of relevant social services benefits and support and more active engagement in and promotion of children’s reintegration without stigma by safe and nurturing families and communities including those caring for returned girls and boys; and (3) enhanced delivery of inclusive age and gender-responsive social and resilience services by a competent social service workforce in communities targeted by the Better care project.
