Project Description
This project is part of Canada’s Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Program. It supports local and regional women’s rights organizations (WROs) lesbian bisexual transgender queer and intersex plus (LBTQI+) groups and feminist networks working to promote the rights of women and girls and advance gender equality globally. It provides multi-year core funding and rapid responsive funding strengthens institutional capacity and bolsters feminist movements as WROs and feminist movements are critical change agents. The Program continues to respond to the globally recognized and significant gap in funding and support for WROs and feminist movements worldwide. It includes enhanced support for WROs LBTQI+ organizations and women human rights defenders (WHRDs) working in crisis- and conflict-affected settings and a more intentional approach to reaching structurally excluded groups. This includes but is not limited to LBTQI+ communities women and girls with disabilities Indigenous women and girls and young feminists. The Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership Ghana project aims to provide sustained resources to 30 WROs and Youth Led Organizations (YLOs) for organizational programming. Also it provides funding for short-term projects and activities for up to 100 WROs and YLOs throughout Ghana. It focuses on institutional capacity strengthening in revenue mobilization monitoring and reporting with key innovative support for the development of social enterprises. The project also invests resources to the feminist sub-implementors. This includes Network for Women’s Rights in Ghana (NETRIGHT) and youth-led sub-implementor African Youth and Adolescent Network (AFRIYAN Ghana) for movement strengthening and coordination.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced organizational sustainability of Ghanaian women’s rights organizations and marginalized groups to deliver their feminist and gender equality mandates; (2) strengthened programming and advocacy of women’s rights organizations marginalized groups and women human rights defenders to advance gender equality and empower women and girls; and (3) increased effectiveness of women’s rights platforms networks and alliances to affect policy legal and social change in Ghana.
