Project Description
This project contributes to poverty reduction in Ukraine by increasing rural women’s income and addressing the deficits in food production caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion environmental challenges and persistent gender inequality. The project targets women farmers members and leadership of selected agricultural cooperatives agricultural extension services agricultural marketing boards and government decision-makers. While the project is focused on supporting women farmers some support is provided to other vulnerable groups such as veterans and internally displaced people in the project areas. Project activities include: (1) training and mentoring in landmine safety climate-smart agriculture and advocacy; (2) introducing improved technology; (3) supporting cooperative development; (4) strengthening market linkages in selected agricultural value chains; and (5) supporting policy dialogue.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased effective use of appropriate farming techniques and technology by women farmers; (2) increased effectiveness of the cooperative movement in meeting the needs of its women members; and (3) increased participation of women in higher-value agriculture and agricultural decision-making.
