Project Description
This project aims to enhance the strategic planning coordination and operational efficiency capabilities of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in fighting against drug trafficking. Project activities include: (1) conducting a comprehensive review of the current national and cross-border governance and cooperation frameworks identifying priorities and providing relevant recommendations; (2) facilitating the exchange of experience expertise and best practices aligned with international standards to deepen understanding of the complexity of countering drug trafficking; and (3) strengthening national database systems by providing necessary equipment and training to counternarcotic units.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced coordination strategic planning and institutional capacity in countering drug trafficking for Iraqi counternarcotic authorities; (2) enhanced national counternarcotic strategic decision-making guided by systematic data collection centralization and analysis. This led to improved strategic decision-making; and (3) enhanced counternarcotics efforts of key criminal justice actors in detecting identifying and investigating illicit drug trafficking.
