Project Description

This project aims to strengthen the conflict sensitivity capacity of local and international humanitarian development and peace (HDP) actors in Ethiopia by establishing a Conflict sensitivity hub. Project activities include: (1) conducting conflict analysis; (2) providing training and support to Ethiopian and international organizations on conflict sensitivity; (3) providing longer-term mentorship to develop local expertise and accompany Ethiopian organizations; (4) providing on-the-job training for Ethiopian experts through a fellowship program within the Hub; (5) establishing an online database of key publications news and resources along with a conflict sensitivity help desk; and (6) convening research briefings and outreach meetings with donors government and sectoral coordination mechanism to communicate the importance of conflict sensitivity and the Hub’s services.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased and improved HDP actors’ policies and practices that integrate conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding concerns; (2) increased integration of gender considerations and marginalized groups in Ethiopian-led conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding discourse and practice; (3) improved coherence between HDP sector policies and strategies in ways that optimise conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding; (4) increased awareness amongst HDP practitioners on how to integrate conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding concerns into organisational policies and practices; (5) increased and improved quality of HDP practitioners’ conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding skills and knowledge including on gender and inclusion particularly amongst Ethiopian organizations; (6) increased awareness by HDP actors on how to incorporate new knowledge relevant to peacebuilding and conflict sensitivity including on gender and inclusion into their policies program designs and business processes; and (7) increased capacity of HDP actors to adjust policies and programs for conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding pact based upon knowledge received from others
