Project Description
The project aims to improve the resilience of agricultural livelihoods particularly for women by promoting the adoption of gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture practices. The project operates in 5 regions of northern Ghana where farming communities are highly vulnerable to droughts and other climate-related challenges. Project activities include: (1) providing training through tailor-made training programs on climate-resilient farming practices and resources to enhance women’s capacity to adapt to climate change and to address specific barriers such as limited access to land technology and financial services; (2) facilitating access to financial products such as low-interest loans waived collateral and flexible repayment terms. These financial products are tailored to 14 500 smallholder farmers for purchasing farming inputs and to 480 agribusiness traders for storage and trade as well as to 20 small and medium size enterprises to enhance value-added processing; and (3) delivering leadership training to strengthen women’s ability to take an active role in community planning and decision-making processes related to agriculture and climate adaptation within their communities. For administrative reasons this initiative appears as two separate elements in the GAC system. Projects P013877001 and P013877002 are the same project.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased use of gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture practices by farmers particularly women in selected vulnerable communities; (2) enhanced climate change leadership and decision-making by women in community planning; and (3) improved delivery of financial services to women in agriculture.
