Project Description
March 2025 - A 7.7 magnitude earthquake and a 6.4 magnitude aftershock struck central Myanmar on March 28 2025 resulting in extensive destruction and loss of life. A state of emergency has been declared in 6 regions home to over 28 million people. The earthquake compounds an already fragile situation driven by an ongoing conflict displacement and past disasters. With GAC's support the World Food Programme (WFP) helps provide emergency food and nutrition assistance and logistical services to address lifesaving and time-critical needs of vulnerable people living in the affected regions. Project activities include: (1) providing immediate food and nutrition assistance; (2) distributing emergency cash assistance; and (3) supporting logistical operations.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved access to emergency food assistance for affected communities; and (2) increased logistic services to support the humanitarian response in Myanmar. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
