Project Description

November 2024 - Political instability conflict and natural disasters have left more than 25 million people across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in need of humanitarian assistance. Populations face insecurity malnutrition and limited access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Also hunger displacement and conflict increase the risk of sexual and gender-based violence especially for the most vulnerable With Global Affairs Canada (GAC)’s support Médecins du Monde provides a multi-sectoral response targeting an estimated 50 000 IDPs affected by conflict in Nyemba Kalemie and Nyunzu in the province of Tanganyika. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency primary health and nutrition services to vulnerable populations; (2) providing sexual and reproductive health services including care for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence; (3) providing psychosocial care; and (4) providing emergency mobile health responses

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased immediate use of emergency primary health services by vulnerable populations (in particular girls and boys under 5 years old pregnant and breastfeeding women); and (2) increased immediate access to health services offered as close as possible to the communities for vulnerable populations including GBV case management services The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity
