Project Description
This project supports climate-vulnerable and marginalized communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh to develop local solutions that build their resilience to the impacts of climate change. The project aims to ensure women are meaningfully engaged in local planning processes to ensure their concerns are reflected in resilience-building measures. Project activities include: (1) conducting household-based training focused on gender-responsive climate-adaptive livelihood options; (2) providing financial grants to selected communities to support implementation of their designated components within local resilience plans; (3) delivering training programs and capacity-building initiatives for government and civil society personnel to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively collaborate and implement locally led approaches; and (4) establishing formal agreements or partnerships between national government institutions and civil society organizations. These agreements will outline their roles and responsibilities in implementing locally led approaches including in allocating resources to support locally led initiatives in various regions and communities.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased practice of climate-smart resilience-building practices and diversification of livelihoods by vulnerable households especially women in 3 districts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts; (2) increased women’s role in decision-making developing promoting and implementing inclusive local resilience plans with local government institutions and civil society organizations; and (3) increased support from national government institutions and civil society organizations to scale up locally led approaches.
