Project Description
Caribbean leaders have regularly underscored the importance of private sector growth and diversification to meet the region's aspirations for job creation and global competitiveness. Compete Caribbean+ responds to this priority with a program focussed on enhancing gender-responsive and climate-resilient growth by improving the business enabling environment and supporting firms’ to innovate. The initiative builds on data and best practices from its experience over 2 phases since 2010 with a shift towards opportunities in the green and blue economy. Project activities include: (1) improving competitiveness climate action and inclusiveness of Caribbean private sector; (2) enhancing government capabilities to support climate-smart and gender-responsive businesses; and (3) promoting research and development for climate innovation in the public and private sectors. The project targets all Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member countries while Canada focuses on funding the official development assistance (ODA) - eligible countries of CARICOM: Belize Dominica Grenada Guyana Jamaica Saint Lucia Suriname and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved competitiveness climate action and inclusiveness of the Caribbean private sector (2) enhanced government capabilities to support climate-smart and gender-responsive businesses and (3) reinforced research institutions and surrounding ecosystems to produce knowledge that supports climate-smart and gender-responsive public and private sectors.
